Applied Materials opens $500 million Singapore chip campus
Why it matters: The expansion more than doubles local cleanroom capacity and is expected to add 1,000 jobs as AI chip demand rises.
Applied Materials opened a new $500 million manufacturing and research campus in Tampines, Singapore, expanding capacity to supply semiconductor equipment for AI-driven chip demand. The company said the site more than doubles its advanced cleanroom capacity in Singapore and is already running volume production. The expansion is expected to create 1,000 jobs spanning manufacturing, research and development, headquarters functions and field services. Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong said the investment strengthens Singapore’s position as a trusted semiconductor base. Applied Materials said its Singapore operation is the company’s largest outside the United States. It also plans partnerships with the National University of Singapore and the Singapore Institute of Technology to train AI-ready talent.
