Apple’s $1,999 iPhone Duo preorders push shipping into January

What’s new: Launch-day stock vanished almost immediately online and in stores, while Apple shares rose 1.8% before the open.

Apple’s first folding phone drew enough early demand on Oct. 16 to push online shipping estimates into January within minutes of preorders opening, signaling tight supply ahead of the iPhone Duo’s Oct. 23 release. The $1,999 device sold out of launch-day inventory at Apple retail stores almost immediately after orders began at 8 a.m. in New York. The delayed delivery windows applied across both colors and every storage option, from 256 gigabytes to 2 terabytes. Counterpoint Research estimates the model could reach about 6 million sales in 2026, giving Apple a stronger foothold in the foldable phone market, which has remained a niche category.
