Apple accuses OpenAI of destroying evidence in trade secrets fight

What's new: Apple cited forensic findings from ex-engineer Chang Liu's MacBook and wants faster pretrial fact-finding.

Apple sharpened its trade secrets case against OpenAI with an Aug. 31 court filing that accused the company of destroying evidence tied to former Apple engineer Chang Liu. Apple said an initial forensic review of an Apple-issued MacBook used by Liu found he kept unauthorized access to Apple cloud storage after leaving in January, downloaded confidential internal files including a circuit schematic, and used that material in his work at OpenAI. Apple also alleged the laptop showed Liu sent instructions to an OpenAI colleague to destroy evidence. OpenAI has sought dismissal of the case and has argued Liu was trying to help a former Apple colleague, not misuse trade secrets. Apple is seeking damages and orders to stop the alleged conduct and destroy proprietary material.
