Appeals court clears release of Biden ghostwriter interview audio

What's next: The 2-1 ruling is paused until Aug. 3, giving Biden time to seek another appeal before the recordings can be released.

A federal appeals court ruled that audio recordings and transcripts of Joe Biden's 2016 and 2017 interviews with memoir ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer can be released, rejecting the former president's request to keep them private. The 2-1 decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit was paused until Aug. 3 to give Biden time to pursue another appeal. The majority found a substantial public interest in disclosure and said redactions would limit the privacy impact. The material was gathered by special counsel Robert Hur during his classified-documents investigation, which ended without charges. Biden had sued to stop the Trump Justice Department from releasing the recordings to Congress and the Heritage Foundation.
