Authorities destroy 1.3 tons of ketamine seized from MV King Sun in Batam

The evidence stemmed from a sea-smuggling bust in Bintan on August 6 after Thai intelligence issued warnings starting in May.

Joint authorities destroyed 1.3 tons of ketamine at the Naval Regional Command IV headquarters in Batam, Rabu, 12 Agustus 2026, following the seizure from the MV King Sun. Bea Cukai, BNN, Polri, and TNI AL used BNN's mobile incinerator to destroy the evidence from a sea operation in the northern waters of Berakit, Bintan, Kepulauan Riau, on 6 August. The operation began with information from Thai authorities received by Bea Cukai and BNN in mid- to late May 2026, then was reinforced by monitoring throughout July and additional information from Polri in early August. After the vessel was designated an operation target, KRI Kerambit-627 and joint units carried out the interdiction. The government said the case was important because the sea routes around Batam and Kepulauan Riau are often used as an entry point for narcotics.
