Anthropic sets aside 5% stake for fund tied to AI job losses

What's new: The stake could rise as the company's valuation grows ahead of a planned November IPO.

Anthropic plans to place 5% of its shares into a new public benefit fund aimed at studying and addressing disruption from artificial intelligence, including job displacement. The U.S. startup said the fund, subject to shareholder approval, could receive another 2% of shares for every 50% increase in the company's value above a baseline that has not been disclosed. Anthropic said the vehicle will be structured as a wholly owned LLC, and the equity it holds will not be used for lobbying or political donations. The move comes as the Claude developer prepares for a reported November IPO after telling investors third-quarter revenue reached $16.8 billion.
