Anthropic files for IPO, setting up a major test of AI valuations
What's next: The offering could expose Anthropic's gross margins and reset pricing for private AI rivals.
Anthropic confidentially filed for an initial public offering with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, moving ahead of rival OpenAI in the race to reach public markets. CNBC reported the company recently hit a $965 billion valuation and a $47 billion revenue run rate, making the listing one of the biggest tests yet of investor appetite for pure-play frontier AI companies. Analysts told CNBC the key figure will be Anthropic's gross margin, because the cost of delivering AI services remains unusually high. A public filing could also reshape how investors value competitors including OpenAI, Google, Meta and SpaceX.
