2026 MBG budget may fall from Rp268 trillion

Officials are reworking school targets and service points after 6,877 SPPG sites were deemed capable of wasting Rp12 trillion a year.

The government is recalculate funding needs for the 2026 Free Nutritious Meals Program, putting the already set Rp268 trillion ceiling at risk of being lowered. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the restructuring of MBG governance is being discussed with the Finance Ministry and the National Nutrition Agency, with a target of completion within one month. The changes include refocusing beneficiaries and reviewing schools considered outside priority distribution. Coordinating Food Minister Zulkifli Hasan said the number of SPPG points had swelled from an initial plan of 21 thousand to 27,877, a level he said could trigger Rp12 trillion in annual waste. In 3T regions, service points also rose from a target of 2 thousand to 8,617. The government said services already in line with SOP will continue, while expansion to beneficiaries from pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and toddlers is being accelerated.
