Andrea Bocelli goes ahead with Borobudur concert amid protests

Thousands still turned out Saturday night after residents in Magelang had urged cancellation over alleged ties to Israel.

Andrea Bocelli went ahead with a concert at the Borobudur Temple area in Magelang Regency, Central Java, on Saturday night, despite earlier protests from residents. The Italian tenor performed in the "Romanza 30th Anniversary World Tour" concert with Borobudur Temple as a backdrop, drawing thousands of spectators. During the day, several community groups carried posters and demanded that the concert be canceled. They said Bocelli had ties to Israel and voiced solidarity with Palestine. ANTARA reported that the show still went on as part of the 30th anniversary tour for the album Romanza, featuring classical and crossover repertoire at one of the world heritage sites.
