AMI backs Grand National Museum project at Monas
AMI says the project could become a center for education on Nusantara history, alongside revitalization of 240 museums and heritage sites in 2026.
The Indonesian Museum Association supports President Prabowo Subianto's idea to build the Grand National Museum in the Monumen Nasional area in Jakarta. AMI chairman Putu Supadma Rudana said the project could strengthen the museum ecosystem while widening public access to the history, culture and civilization of Nusantara. He said the museum is expected to cover Indonesia's journey from prehistoric times to the modern era and not stop as a place to store collections, but become a space for learning, interaction, inspiration, entertainment and recreation. AMI also said the Monas location has strong historical value as a symbol of the nation's struggle and identity. At the same time, Putu highlighted the accelerated revitalization and restructuring of 240 museum sites, cultural heritage sites, palaces, fortresses and other cultural assets in 2026 through the Ministry of Culture led by Fadli Zon.
