Alwi Farhan reaches Australia Open semifinals after straight-games win
Next up, the third-seeded Indonesian will face Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong for a place in the Sydney final.
Alwi Farhan advanced to the semifinals of the BWF World Tour Super 500 Australia Open 2026 after defeating Taiwan's Lee Chia Hao 21-18, 21-15 at Quaycentre, Olympic Boulevard, Sydney, on Friday. The third-seeded Indonesian men's singles player looked better prepared to read his opponent's patterns and was able to blunt Lee's attacks at key moments in both games. Alwi said the match was not easy because their head-to-head record was fairly even, while Lee was trying to rediscover his best form. After the match, Alwi said being comfortable in Sydney also helped his performance. In the semifinals, he will meet Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong, who beat Hu Zhe An of China 21-23, 21-18, 21-13.
