Alwi Farhan reaches Australian Open 2026 final, all-Indonesia bid ends
Alwi will face Dong Tianyao after Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah fell in the other semifinal, ending an all-Indonesia final.
Alwi Farhan advanced to the Australian Open 2026 men's singles final after beating Hong Kong's Jason Gunawan 21-11, 17-21, 21-9 at Quaycentre, Olympic Boulevard, Sydney, on Saturday. The 1 hour 14 minute win briefly opened the door to an all-Indonesian final. That scenario did not materialize after Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah fell in the other semifinal to China's Dong Tianyao. With that result, Alwi will face Dong in the title match. After the match, Alwi admitted the second game was still marked by many errors, but said he drew confidence from his previous record against Jason. The tournament is also Alwi's third straight BWF event, highlighting the challenge of maintaining physical and mental condition ahead of the final.
