Albany woman charged in ISIS-inspired plot to bomb New York Capitol
What's new: FBI agents arrested the 35-year-old after she took an inert bomb and handgun in a sting operation.
Federal authorities charged Jessica Bowie, 35, of Albany with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization after they say she plotted an ISIS-inspired attack on the New York State Capitol. Investigators alleged Bowie conducted surveillance of the building, bought bomb components at a hardware store on Aug. 5 and told informants she wanted to kill lawmakers and destroy records. She was arrested Aug. 19 after taking what she believed were an explosive device and a handgun supplied by the FBI, court papers said. Officials said Bowie had posted anti-American messages online and discussed fleeing to Syria after the attack. Gov. Kathy Hochul said New York had already tightened Capitol security.
