Aksi Bela Indonesia at Al Azhar raises 5 demands, targets Gibran

New: the Nov. 8 rally in South Jakarta was expected to draw thousands and highlight allegations of illegal wiretapping.

The Aksi Rakyat Bela Indonesia was held at the Al Azhar Grand Mosque field in South Jakarta on Sunday (8/11), carrying five demands from its initiator, Bachtiar Nasir. One of the main issues highlighted was the legal and constitutional question surrounding the vice president’s post, which reports linked to Gibran. The rally began after dawn prayers, with the main event scheduled from 08.00-10.00 WIB, and was expected to draw thousands of participants. Along with Bachtiar, a number of figures and organization leaders were involved, including Jimly Asshiddiqie as patron and Ferry Juliantono as steering committee chairman. The other demands called for strengthening national unity, opposing oligarchy and foreign intervention, implementing the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, and investigating alleged illegal wiretapping of figures, civil society organizations and media.
