About 20,000 gather around Kallang Basin before NDP fireworks

Around 20,000 people spread out across the Kallang Basin and areas near Singapore’s National Stadium on Aug. 9, hours before the National Day Parade fireworks display scheduled for about 8:15 p.m. The parade returned to the National Stadium for the first time in a decade, drawing ticket holders inside the 42,000-seat venue and many others to nearby public viewing spots. Security operations began from 5 a.m., with about 60 personnel from the Singapore Armed Forces, police, civil defense force and Land Transport Authority monitoring roads, entry points and CCTV feeds. Organizers said more than 100 lanes were set up to move crowds through checks while helping spectators who needed mobility assistance.
