4 Suspects Detained After Police Seize 52.5 Tons of Tin Sand in Belitung

Bareskrim is also tracking the masterminds and financiers, as police suspect the tin was headed for Malaysia.

The Bangka Belitung Islands Police have named four suspects in an alleged smuggling case involving 52.5 tons of illegal tin sand found in Air Merbau, Tanjungpandan, Belitung Regency. Officers seized the tin sand from a house believed to be a storage warehouse, then transported it to the Brimob headquarters for investigation. Bareskrim Polri is now handling the case with the Babel police to trace other people involved, including the masterminds and financiers. Police suspect the tin sand, which came from illegal mining, was to be shipped to Malaysia. Initial findings indicate the material came from outside the mining concession area of PT Timah. Separately, Satlap Tri Cakti said the administrative records for the tin ore listed it as belonging to a PT Timah partner company and under supervision.
