30 motorists penalized at Woodlands Checkpoint over Vesak traffic

What's new: Nine foreign-registered drivers were barred from entering Singapore, while 15 cases were sent to Traffic Police.

Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority caught 30 motorists committing traffic offenses at Woodlands Checkpoint during the Vesak Day long weekend from May 28 to June 1, after stepping up enforcement at the busy crossing. The violations were detected in departure lanes and included queue-cutting, crossing double white lines, illegal right turns, and stopping in ways that could cause danger or obstruction. ICA directed 21 vehicles to make a U-turn and rejoin the line, and imposed entry bans on nine drivers of foreign-registered vehicles. The agency also referred 15 motorists to Traffic Police for possible further action and urged travelers to follow lane discipline at land checkpoints.
