30-Hectare Fire in Sembalun Rinjani Extinguished Before Dawn
Teams are still sweeping the site after three fire spots emerged in dry areas along the TNGR border and residents' gardens as NTB enters the dry season.
The land fire that hit the Maletan Sembalun area at the foot of Mount Rinjani, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, was brought under control on Saturday (8/8) at about 01:30 WITA. The Gunung Rinjani National Park Office said no active fire spots were found during the initial inspection, but monitoring, cooling, and cleanup continued to prevent embers from flaring up again. Three fire spots were detected since Friday afternoon after a resident report came in at 16.48 WITA. The affected area was estimated at about 30 hectares, dominated by shrubs, bushes, liana, and dry savanna that are easy to burn during the dry season. A joint team carried out the firefighting using water pumps, fire retardant, and machetes. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
