3 states prepare same-day executions, a first in the US since 2010
What's new: Tennessee, Alabama and Oklahoma each plan a lethal injection Thursday as executions remain concentrated in a handful of states.
Tennessee, Alabama and Oklahoma are set to carry out lethal injections Thursday in what would be the first time since Jan. 7, 2010, that three executions happen on the same day in the United States. The inmates are Anthony Darrell Hines, 66, in Tennessee; Jeremy Williams, 41, in Alabama; and Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez, 71, in Oklahoma. The rare alignment comes amid a broader rise in executions driven by a small group of states. Eleven states put 47 people to death in 2025, the highest total since 2009, with Florida accounting for 19. Tennessee's case is drawing added scrutiny after officials halted Tony Carruthers' execution in May because the IV team could not place a required backup line.
