3 men arrested after 21-year-old dies in Brazil rope-jump fall

What's new: Police said the group had no authorization to run jumps at the 40-meter bridge and are pursuing intentional homicide charges.

Brazilian police arrested three men after a 21-year-old woman died in a rope-jumping accident from an abandoned bridge in São Paulo state. Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas fell about 40 meters at Ponte do Esqueleto, on the border of Limeira and Cordeirópolis, after instructors let her jump without a safety rope attached, according to video that spread online. She was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday. Local reports said investigators are treating the case as homicide with eventual intent, a charge used when someone assumes a deadly risk. Police also said the men were part of an informal rope-jumping group and lacked authorization to operate at the bridge.
