3 kg CNG cylinder testing enters final stage, burn test next

The government said testing of 3 kilogram compressed natural gas, or CNG, cylinders as an alternative to 3 kg LPG has entered its final stage. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said Lemigas only needs to complete a firing test with 850 degrees Celsius combustion to assess the safety of the cylinder and its valve. The testing will be carried out in Indonesia and China. Bahlil hopes the introduction of 3 kg CNG to the public can take place in August. He said the main challenge lies in technical aspects because CNG pressure reaches about 200-250 bar, far above LPG, which is in the 5-10 bar range. The government is pushing the option to reduce dependence on energy imports by using domestic natural gas.
