3 Illegal Logging Suspects Arrested in Riau's SM Kerumutan
All three face Conservation Law charges carrying up to 11 years in prison and a maximum fine of Rp2 billion.
Three illegal logging suspects in Suaka Margasatwa Kerumutan, Pelalawan regency, Riau, were arrested in a joint operation on Aug. 1, 2026. Two suspects, identified as E and SH, were allegedly transporting illegal timber by truck, while another, A, was caught carrying processed wood out of the conservation area on a modified bicycle. Officers later found a hut and logging support facilities inside the area, then destroyed the processed timber, the hut and wooden rails used to move the felled wood. All three have been named as suspects. The case is considered significant because SM Kerumutan is habitat for Sumatran tigers threatened by illegal logging and poaching.
