3 boats burn at Muara Angke, losses estimated at Rp1.5 billion
Fire officials suspect an electrical short during ship repairs sparked the blaze, which took about three hours to extinguish.
Three wooden boats docked at Muara Angke Pier, Pluit, North Jakarta, caught fire on Sunday morning, with estimated losses of about Rp1.5 billion. The North Jakarta and Kepulauan Seribu Fire and Rescue Agency received the report at 08.37 WIB and deployed 12 fire trucks and 65 personnel. The fire was put out at about 11.52 WIB after nearly three hours of firefighting efforts. Gatot Sulaeman, operations chief at Gulkarmat Jakarta Utara dan Kepulauan Seribu, said witness accounts indicated the fire was likely triggered by an electrical short circuit during ship repair or docking work. The burned area was reported at 343 square meters, with each boat covering about 114 square meters. The three boats were reported to belong to H Samang.
