3,233 hectares of rice fields in Lamongan regain water amid El Nino
Still pending: 217 hectares, mainly in Turi and Sugio, are being restored through pumping and irrigation channel repairs.
The Agriculture Ministry reported that 3,233 hectares of the 3,450 hectares of rice fields affected by drought from El Nino in Lamongan, East Java, have been watered again. Another 217 hectares are still being handled. The effort is being carried out through pumping and irrigation canal normalization in seven districts. Work has been completed in Karang Binangun, Glagah, Kalitengah, and Sukodadi. Kalitengah recorded the largest recovery, at 1,855 hectares. The largest remaining task is in Turi: 622 hectares have been watered out of 791 affected hectares, leaving 169 hectares. In Sugio, 63 hectares have been handled out of 94 hectares, leaving 31 hectares. Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said the move is part of drought mitigation to protect farmers' planting season.
