200 elementary school students in Mataram join traditional games contest

New: the gilingan, palentong and hadang contests are meant to revive games that children play less often.

A total of 200 elementary school students from across Mataram took part in a traditional games contest at Taman Budaya Mataram, Nusa Tenggara Barat, on Saturday (17/10). The event, organized by Balai Pelestarian Kebudayaan NTB, was part of the commemoration of Hari Kebudayaan Nasional. Games in the contest included gilingan, palentong and hadang. Beyond testing participants' agility, the event was aimed at reintroducing traditional games that are increasingly rarely played amid the rise of digital games. Organizers also used the contest as an effort to preserve cultural heritage so it remains known to younger generations and does not disappear over time.
