200,815 Central Java UMKM get free halal certificates
Central Java plans to widen certification from its 4.2 million UMKM base while stepping up oversight of licensed products.
A total of 200,815 UMKM in Jawa Tengah have obtained halal certificates through the Free Halal Certification, or Sehati, program. The achievement is being used by the Central Java provincial government to strengthen the halal ecosystem while supporting Muslim-friendly tourism and a sustainable sharia economy.
Deputy Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Maimoen said the province has about 4.2 million UMKM, leaving wide room to expand certification. He called for stronger collaboration among the Central Java provincial government, the Halal Product Assurance Agency, halal inspection institutions, and halal product process assistance groups.
He said halal certificates should not stop as licensing documents, but must be followed by regular inspections so production processes remain in line with the rules. For the tourism sector, he asked destinations in Jawa Tengah to prepare halal-certified food centers or eateries, as well as supporting facilities in hotels and tourism areas.
