Two US small businesses sued in the US Court of International Trade in New York on Thursday, challenging President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on goods from 60 trading partners. The administration imposed duties of 10% and 12.5%, including on the European Union, after a temporary 10% global tariff expired. The businesses argue the measures exceed presidential authority and fail to make the detailed country-by-country findings needed to justify tariffs tied to forced labor. The lawsuit also says Trump is trying to restore broad tariffs that courts have already rejected. The administration used Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, a law usually aimed at specific countries or industries, and is already appealing a separate ruling against earlier tariffs.
