2 trains collided near Bedford, halting London rail service

What's new: East Midlands Railway stopped London-bound service for the rest of the day as emergency crews and an air ambulance responded.

Two trains collided Friday on tracks just south of Bedford, about 60 miles north of London, prompting a major emergency response and widespread rail disruption. British Transport Police, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and the East of England Ambulance Service were sent to the scene, with the ambulance service dispatching multiple units including an air ambulance. Images from the site showed the front of one train jammed into the rear of another. Officials did not immediately give a casualty count, though media reports cited multiple injuries. East Midlands Railway halted services in and out of London for the rest of the day, while Thameslink said all lines between Luton and Bedford were blocked as the incident was investigated.
