Jenny Honeycutt and Mark Smith advanced Tuesday to a Republican runoff in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, the race to replace outgoing Rep. Nancy Mace. Neither candidate won the majority needed to claim the nomination outright, sending the contest to a June 23 runoff. The seat opened after Mace chose to run for governor. The coastal district has been a reliable Republican seat for most of the past four decades, with Democrats holding it only briefly from 2019 to 2021.
