2 hikers found dead on cliff at Gunung Piramid, Bondowoso
Their bodies were found 170 meters from the incident site, but evacuation was suspended until Wednesday because of darkness and steep terrain.
A joint SAR team found two hikers who had been reported missing on Gunung Piramid in Curahdami District, Bondowoso, East Java, dead on Tuesday (4/8). The victims were Maliya Finda, 51, a resident of Wonokromo, Surabaya, and Irfan Nasrul Laili, 35, a guide from Wonosari, Bondowoso. Jember SAR Post coordinator Jefriyanzah said the two were found at 12:13 WIB, about 170 meters from the incident site, at the foot of a cliff with a slope of about 40 degrees and a depth of roughly 60 meters. Evacuation efforts were carried out, but were halted until Wednesday (5/8) as darkness fell, the area was very narrow, and the steep terrain was deemed risky for personnel.
