2 men arrested at Changi after S$235,000 diamond swap theft

What's next: The suspects, 30 and 42, are due in court on a theft charge that carries up to seven years in jail and a fine.

Singapore police arrested two men at Changi Airport Terminal 3 on June 19, hours after a diamond worth more than S$235,000 was allegedly stolen from a Chinatown jewelry store in a sleight-of-hand switch. Police said the men, ages 30 and 42, had examined the stone at the Kreta Ayer Road shop, replaced it with a fake and left without making a purchase. A shop assistant grew suspicious and later found the genuine diamond had been swapped out. Officers from the Central Police Division and the Police Operations Command Centre tracked the pair through CCTV, police camera footage and ground inquiries. The diamond was recovered. The men are set to be charged with theft in dwelling with common intention.
