2 men arrested after Balestier temple donation-box theft in April
What's new: Police said the pair left Singapore the day of the break-in and were detained only after returning on Aug. 16.
Singapore police arrested two Chinese nationals, ages 43 and 50, over an April break-in at a temple on Tai Gin Road in Balestier where about S$300 to S$400 was taken from donation boxes. Investigators said the men used a card covered with adhesive tape to pull cash from the boxes after entering the premises around 12:30 a.m. on April 2. Officers from Tanglin Police Division identified the pair with CCTV footage, but the men had already left Singapore that same day. They were arrested when they returned on Aug. 16 and are due to be charged on Aug. 18 with housebreaking and theft with common intention. The offense carries up to 10 years in jail and a fine.
