2 killed in Kenya protests over US-backed Ebola center plan

What's next: A High Court judge extended a suspension and ordered the government to disclose details of the planned 50-bed facility.

Two people were shot dead in Nanyuki, Kenya, during protests over plans to set up a US-backed Ebola isolation center at Laikipia Airbase, according to reporting by the BBC. Hundreds of demonstrators marched through the town on Monday, blocked roads and burned tires as police fired tear gas. The circumstances of the two deaths remain unclear, and a police spokesman told Reuters he was not aware of any fatalities. President William Ruto defended the proposal, saying Kenya had accepted a US request to help handle the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Kenya has recorded no Ebola cases. On Tuesday, the High Court extended a suspension of the project and ordered the government to reveal details of the proposed facility.
