2 hospitalized, 200 evacuated after fire at Choa Chu Kang block

Two people were taken to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation and about 200 residents were evacuated after a fire broke out at Block 287 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 2 on the night of Aug. 29. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted at about 9:05 p.m. and found a blaze involving items in a bedroom of a second-floor unit. Firefighters put it out with one water jet. Two people had already left the affected unit before responders arrived. In a Facebook post on Aug. 30, Chua Chu Kang GRC MP Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim said the hospitalized residents had been discharged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
