2 Chinese nationals charged in Singapore counterfeit note case

Two Chinese nationals were charged in Singapore on Aug. 26 over an alleged scheme to counterfeit Singapore currency after a suspicious note was flagged at Marina Bay Sands Casino. Court documents identified the pair as Yang Zelong, 33, and Han Wenqian, 25. Police said Yang tried to deposit S$150,000 into his casino account early on Aug. 24, but a cage cashier noticed the word "COPY" on one S$100 note and alerted officers. Police then escorted Yang to his hotel room, where they saw Han leaving with a printer. Officers later found 121 counterfeit S$100 notes, along with ink, paper and a paper cutter. The case is due back in court on Sept. 2.
