$14.6M Lincoln Reflecting Pool redo falters as blue paint peels

What's new: algae still coated the pool Friday as crews used peroxide and ozone treatment and vacuumed debris from the bottom.

Washington’s newly repainted Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool remained green with algae on Friday, even after a renovation that cost more than $14.65 million and covered the basin in “American flag blue” paint. The project followed a directive from President Donald Trump ahead of the 250th anniversary of US independence, but the paint is now peeling and workers were back in the pool trying to clear the water. ABC News reported tourists were stopping to photograph the murky water, while protesters carried a “Team Algae” sign. The Interior Department said earlier this week the water was “crystal clear” and that National Park Service crews were removing dead algae after using hydrogen peroxide treatment and nanobubble ozone technology.
