At least 139 migrants, including 15 children, died after a boat carrying 305 people from Djibouti toward Yemen capsized near Guhere, north of Obock, during the night of Oct. 8-9, the International Organization for Migration said. About 82 people survived and roughly 84 were still missing as search and rescue operations continued. The survivors were Ethiopian nationals receiving medical care in Obock. The IOM said the crossing is part of the Eastern Route used by migrants from the Horn of Africa trying to reach Gulf countries for work, despite war in Yemen and growing instability in Ethiopia.
