13 Hotspots in Way Kambas, Water Bombing Starts Sunday
BNPB also plans a weather modification operation on Monday as road access and strong winds continue to slow firefighting.
The Lampung provincial government is preparing aerial firefighting for a forest and land fire in Way Kambas National Park, East Lampung, after 13 hotspots were detected in the area. Lampung Deputy Governor Jihan Nurlela said water bombing is scheduled to begin Sunday morning after coordination with BNPB, BPBD Lampung Timur, the TNWK team, TNI, Polri and local residents. Ground crews are still working, but they face access problems because the fire site is far from roads and water canals. Strong winds have also created thick smoke that is reducing visibility for personnel. In addition to water bombing, BNPB has scheduled a weather modification operation for Monday, Aug. 24, to help contain the spread of the fire in Way Kambas.
