What's new: The fire started in a table grill and exhaust ducting at Yakiniku Like, and the outlet will stay shut during inspections.
About 120 people were evacuated from Junction 8 mall in Bishan, Singapore, after a fire broke out at the Yakiniku Like restaurant on the first floor on the evening of Aug. 11. One employee from a neighboring tenant was taken to Singapore General Hospital after suffering smoke inhalation or smoke-related discomfort, while no other injuries were reported.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted at about 7:10 p.m. and put out the blaze with a hose reel. The fire involved a table grill and exhaust ducting in the restaurant's dining area. Junction 8 said its sprinkler system and fire curtain were activated, and the rest of the mall remained open. The cause is under investigation, and the restaurant is temporarily closed for safety checks.
