12 senators press Trump to reverse Russian diesel deal

What's new: Republicans and Democrats warned the imports would barely cut prices while giving Moscow revenue for its war in Ukraine.

A bipartisan group of 12 senators urged President Donald Trump to unwind his agreement with Vladimir Putin to let Russian diesel reach the United States and global markets. The senators said the plan would do little to reduce fuel costs but would send money to Russia as it wages war in Ukraine. Trump has defended the deal as help for farmers and truckers facing high diesel prices ahead of the November midterms. The arrangement involves initial cargoes totaling about 13.5 million barrels, and the Treasury issued a waiver for previously sanctioned Russian fuel. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the move, while critics in Congress argued it undercuts existing sanctions and U.S. support for Kyiv.
