104 residents of Manggelum flee to Tanah Merah after KKB terror
The refugees, including children, are sheltered in the Boven Digoel Police headquarters hall after health facilities there were reportedly burned.
A total of 104 residents of Manggelum District, Boven Digoel Regency, South Papua, fled to Tanah Merah after the security situation worsened because of attacks by armed criminal groups. They arrived on Saturday (6/6) by motorboat and immediately received humanitarian assistance from Boven Digoel Police personnel.
Boven Digoel Police Chief Wisnu Putra Perdana said the residents had first moved to Kouh District before their journey to Tanah Merah was secured. The refugees are now housed in the Boven Digoel Police headquarters hall. He said health workers have also checked the residents' condition.
Boven Digoel Police are coordinating with the Boven Digoel Regency government, Kodim, TNI, and other related agencies to meet the refugees' basic needs and restore security in Manggelum so the residents can return to their village.
