1 Muharram 1448 H Expected to Fall on June 16, 2026
Muharram also includes the recommended Tasua and Asyura fasts on 9-10 Muharram, with the merit of erasing a year's sins.
Muslims are expected to enter 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriyah on June 16, 2026, marking the Islamic New Year and the start of a month honored in the Hijriyah calendar. Republika wrote that Muharram is one of the four sacred months with a special status in Islam. The occasion is also linked to the Prophet Muhammad SAW's migration from Makkah to Madinah in 622 Masehi, which later became the starting point of the Hijriyah era. In addition to self-reflection and renewed piety, Muslims are encouraged to increase worship during this month, including the Asyura fast on 10 Muharram and the Tasua fast on 9 Muharram. In a Muslim tradition cited by Republika, the Asyura fast is said to erase sins from the previous year. Shofiyullah Muzammil, deputy chairman of the Fatwa Commission of Majelis Ulama Indonesia, also stressed Muharram as a month of reflection for moving toward a better path.
