1 dies, several injured on Goliath coaster at Six Flags Georgia

What's new: Six Flags temporarily shut similar rides across its parks as Cobb County detectives investigate.

One person died and several others were injured Monday in an incident on the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in Cobb County, west of Atlanta. Police said officers reached the park shortly before 4 p.m., and detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are investigating what happened. Witnesses told local TV they saw a man fall from the ride and strike it multiple times. Riders were later evacuated after the coaster stopped near the top. Six Flags said park staff and local authorities responded immediately, and the company has temporarily closed similar attractions across its parks while it cooperates with investigators. Goliath rises 200 feet and reaches about 70 mph, according to the park website.
