A chemical explosion at a paper mill in Longview, Washington, killed at least one person and left nine others missing, authorities said Tuesday. Nine people were also injured, including eight employees and one firefighter, the Longview Fire Department said, adding that the tank involved remained unstable. The company said the blast followed a rupture in a tank containing white liquor, a corrosive chemical used in paper production. Later Tuesday, residents gathered for a vigil to remember those killed and hurt in the explosion. The BBC reported the vigil was organized by Longview's former mayor.
