1 dead, 10 wounded after gunman opens fire in Midland, Texas

A gunman killed one person and wounded at least 10 others in Midland, Texas, on Friday before dying after a standoff with police, local officials said. Mayor Lori Blong said officers got the first calls at 8:03 a.m. local time and responded quickly. Officials said there were 11 victims in all, including the person who was killed. Midland Memorial Hospital said it received nine victims and that four were undergoing surgery, while five others were in stable condition. Another injured person was taken to Odessa Medical Center Hospital. Police said the shooting started in one part of Midland and ended near a veterinary hospital in another area of the city.
