1,000 people unfurl 481-meter Merah Putih in Malioboro
The flag stretched from Tugu Pal Putih to Titik Nol Kilometer ahead of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, drawing crowds of residents and tourists.
Thousands of people unfurled a 481-meter-long Merah Putih flag in the Malioboro area of Yogyakarta on Saturday (15/8/2026) as part of the Jogja Merah Putih event ahead of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. The flag was carried from Tugu Pal Putih, along Jalan Malioboro, to Titik Nol Kilometer. Participants included members of the TNI, Polri, local government and the public. Residents and tourists along the route watched the procession. Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X said the event was a moment to strengthen nationalism, especially since it was held on a weekend and could be seen by visitors from various regions.
